I have never been on Afternoon tea before, however Rach has been on a few and has always enjoyed them. I decided to book Afternoon Tea at Thoresby Hall for her Birthday, as I had a voucher from BuyAGift.
Neither of us have been to Thoresby Hall before, and looked forward to visiting it and the grounds. On arrival we parked in the car park and walked towards reception, there is a new part of the grounds which is very modern and to be honest I think it would have been nicer to have seen the hall on arrival and not the newer building.
We were a little early so headed to the main hall and got ourselves a drink, the staff behind the bar were very friendly. The entire place was very relaxing, although it can be hard to find a seat as it was very busy and took us some time to find somewhere to sit.
The actual building itself is incredible and the decor fits perfectly with the type of building. If you like 19th century country houses then this one would be well worth a visit, it is very beautiful.
What’s Thoresby Hall Location Like?
The location is excellent, once you enter the grounds you feel completely away from everything. The surroundings are very relaxing, when we had a drink looking out of the window I could have very easily lost myself in my thoughts and let time simply slip by.
When we had Thoresby Hall Afternoon Tea, we sat at a table by the window and this gave us a perfect view of the grounds and the fountain. It is a shame that we went when it was winter as it was very cold, I can imagine it would be very picturesque in the summer.
What Did Thoresby Hall Afternoon Tea Include?
When we were sat at our table our drinks were taken, I chose to have tea whilst Rach opted for coffee. We both did feel that the tea and coffee could have been served in better tableware, It would have been fine anywhere else but due to the impressiveness of Thoresby Hall id have thought it would come out in something that looks a little more “vintage”.
We then received our sandwiches and cakes, they did look very nice and very well organized. On the top tier we had fresh strawberries and cream, in the middle we had a selection of 4 sandwiches these were;
- Salmon and Creme Fraiche
- Egg and watercress
- Beef with Horseradish
The sandwiches were actually very nice, the bread was soft and very tasty with the filling also being very nice. You could tell that they were all made fresh and on order rather than made in bulk, the only comment I would have was that the beef tasted a little fatty but other than that it was spot on for me.
The bottom tier was filled with many cakes, and biscuits which were all very tasty and looked very impressive. On the side we each had two scones which also came with proper clotted cream and jam, these were very nice and also very light.
We couldn’t actually eat it all, they were however more than happy to package the cakes up in a box to allow us to take them home to enjoy….which we did!
What Was The Service Like?
I thought the service was actually very good, we arrived a little early and was welcomed in to have a seat until the table was ready. Our waitress came and introduced herself by name which made us feel very welcome, Mandy soon showed us to our table and took our drinks order.
Mandy brought our sandwiches and cakes and went through each one to inform us what we had got, she then came back a couple of times to check how we were and to take any additional drinks orders. Mandy did a great job and the people in charge at Thoresby Hall should be very proud of the work she did.
