Where Did I Go

Price Range: ££££
We went to Chino Latino for a friends birthday and just before going we also found out they had gotten engaged, which meant we had double the reason to celebrate.
I have not had much Japanese food before so was really looking forward to trying something new, I am sure glad I did. The food is contemporary Pan-Asian that offer a wide range of individual dishes or set menus.
Rach phoned up a few hours before we were due to dine to request if they are able to prepare a bottle of champagne on arrival, which they were more than happy to arrange. As they knew it was for a celebration the went out of their way on the phone to also arrange a little extra on the dessert.
What’s The Location Like?
Chino Latino Nottingham is located on maid marian way, there are many different restaurants and bars located on here it makes for an excellent evening out.
The restaurant itself is very nice with sleek black and tables and red chairs, the atmosphere is great. Some of the tables are joint with there diners which I personally don’t like, although they were happy to let us move to an alternative table.
The main downside to me with the location is that it is in the Park Plaza hotel, I personally feel it would be better if it was in its own standalone building.
What Did I have?
As I had not had much Japanese food in the past, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try the tasting menu. This will allow me to sample a wide range of dishes that Chino Latino Nottingham do claim as their signature dishes.
The tasting menu is £45 a person and includes;
- Tuna oba leaf roll – chilli miso, tongrashi
- Soft shell crab – golden curry sauce, mango salsa
- Crispy Duck – umeboshi, little gem, plum sake sauce, cucumber
- Hamachi Taquitos – Red onion, jalepeno, avocado
- Beef Taquitos – Aji panda, red onion, jalepeno, avocado
- Sirloin steak on hot rocks – wasabi ponzu, garlic
- Lamb cutlets – marinated in Korean hot pepper paste, wasabi cream
- Steamed sea bass – ginger soy, chilli, coriander
- Jasmine Ride
- Dessert Platter – selection of desserts from the menu
What Was The Service Like?
I felt the service was very good, there seemed to be plenty of staff available so there was always someone around if needed.
The waitress that served us was quick to seat us and provide us with our menus. She came soon after with our drinks and asked if we had been before so she could explain the menu.
With each dish that came out she would explain exactly what it was, which I felt helped a lot.
The managers of Chino Latino Nottingham should be proud of their serving staff and the chefs as the food was also excellent.
Final Foodie Thought
If you are looking for something a little different to Italian, steak, or indian then I would fully recommend trying out Chino Latino in Nottingham. If you have not eaten this type of food before then it may put you off, believe me there is no reasons to be.
The food at Chino Latino was incredible and more importantly not too spicy, as I’m not to good with spice! 🙂
I would personally recommend giving the tasting menu a try, it has everything needed to sample the menu.
My final thought is to fully recommend a visit to Chino Latino Nottingham, food is amazing, service excellent – all contributing to an excellent night out!
