Chips go with many dishes but replacing your white potatoes with sweet potatoes is not…
Recently I did a video for sweet potato chips on YouTube, would love to know what you think as videos is something thats very new to me.
I personally love baked sweet potato chips, to me they taste better than normal chips and are full of potassium and Magnesium. They are also high in iron and calcium, which is always good for the body.
The downside to having sweet potato chips is I feel they need a little extra, they need some additional spice to give them that extra wow factor.
The first thing you want to do is peel the potatoes, the skin can be kept on but if your not making wedges id take the skin off. You then want to cut the sweet potatoes into chips, really as thin or as thick as you would like. The important thing to do is make sure the chips are a universal size when baking, this will make sure they all cook at the same time.
You then want top get a bowl and put 2-3 tablespoons of oil, combine with a table spoon of honey as this will add some extra sweetness. The kick comes from the spices, add 2 teaspoons of paprika and 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Id make sure you do just add the 1 teaspoon, more than this can be a little to much.
Finally add a teaspoon of garlic powder and mix everything together, drop the potatoes in. Its a little bit of a messy job but get your hands stuck in and toss the chips around to make sure all of them get fully covered.
Place them on a baking tray and sprinkle salt over all of the chips, place in the oven and cook on a heat of around 180 for 20-30 minutes or until fully cooked.
Baked Sweet Potato Chips are perfect on their own as a nice snack or nibble when you have people round. They do also go incredibly well with dishes that any normal chips would go with such as steak, pork or chicken.
Give them ago and let me know what you think about them 🙂
I have enjoyed cooking for some years now, its one of the only things that I can do that makes me relaxed and forget any worries I have. I love trying new foods and visiting restaurants. Other hobbies include writing, game development and work :)
